GTM glossary for growth models
Shared definitions for the gate, Ground Truth, the install, the engine — and the language we use when we say where revenue stops.
By Taha Zaheer · Founder, Beyond Partners
The GTM conversation fails when everyone uses the same words for different jobs. These are the definitions we use, in the order the work actually happens.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Fractional GTM | Two senior operators inside your commercial system for a defined period, doing the work — not advising on it from a deck. |
| The gate | Step one, free. One hour, seven questions, a written go or no-go the same week. Everything after it is scoped here. |
| Ground Truth | Step two, and the first paid one. Three phases — where you win, what you say, how it runs — ending in a framework you can run, twenty accounts live, and a costed scope. |
| The install | Step three. The GTM system built under your brand: positioning, partners, demand and presales. Your team runs it, tested on real accounts. |
| The engine | Step four. Your commercial team runs the motion. We stay until they can without us, then we go. The system stays on your domain. |
| Constraint | The one choke that governs commercial throughput. Clear it before adding volume upstream. |
| Proof that travels | Reference material a buyer can actually verify — someone they can call. Most volume problems are a version of not having this. |
| Leave-behind | Technology and motion that stay in your stack after the engagement ends. The engine is the main one. |
| Channel motion | Partner-sourced or partner-influenced revenue via SIs, agencies and alliances — instrumented, not logo-listed. |
| Signals | The free weekly list: five AI-native and SaaS companies, and what the model is costing them. |
Frequently asked questions
- What is a revenue constraint?
- The single place in the commercial system that most limits throughput — not the longest list of problems, the one choke that governs output.
- What is the gate?
- One structured hour, seven questions, and a written go or no-go the same week. It is free, it is where everything else gets scoped, and a no-go is a real and frequent outcome.
- What is Ground Truth?
- The paid workshop, and the first paid step. Three phases — where you win, what you say, how it runs — ending in a framework you can run, twenty accounts live on a board, and a costed scope. £6,500 for one market, credited in full against activation begun within 90 days.
